Hype vs utility

Hype is bad. Google launched without any hype, Gmail launched without any hype, it was a closed exclusive beta for the longest time I’ve ever known. I direly wanted a gmail account. I can no longer live without it, unless I take on an unbelievable amount of inconvenience. It made my life better, easier. It works. I don’t need huge Mega international launches, I don’t need any cent of marketing dollars.

Path app was created with an entire slew of top quality coding talent, but has practically no utility to me. Its such a waste I feel. I want something useful. Many of my core apps are just dead useful without needing to be glamorous. My Newsrob RSS news reader is near perfect for one. Runkeeper isn’t the prettiest. In terms of importance to the user, function ranks highest. 🙂 I want to create something functional.
